This is a history of life on Earth.

The materials for life may have been brought here on comets as part of a massive cometary bombardment. Good stuff can come from a rough start. (Photo by U.S. Geological Survey.)
For multi-cellular creatures to evolve, cells had to learn to cooperate. Don't go for all that big fish eats little fish stuff.

Oxygen was at first a toxin for most life on Earth. Now we can't get enough of the stuff. Environments can change radically. (Photo by Baraoxygene.)

Don't let it get you down that there is no evolutionary advantage to compexity of thought. (Photo by Sanjay Ach.)

Insects evolved to frighten us.

There are extinction events for species, ways of living and things we once valued. This is how it rolls. Have fun and be useful while you're here. (Illustration by NASA.)

Human beings appear to have disrupted the food chain.

To the extent life is moved by competition, selection and mutations rather than by cooperation, we can select friendly, sustainable and smart ways to live. We can do this at almost any place we are in life.

Whatever billions of years it took to get to this transient point, I like my friends and feel that life is hopeful.
