![]() Harris County District Attorney Sean Teare was the speaker at the Houston LGBTQ Political Caucus last night. Above you see a picture of Mr. Teare at the meeting. DA Teare said a number of things about how he has improved the DA's office since he took over for Kim Ogg. It all sounded good. It's not hard to imagine that Kim Ogg was doing a bad job. DA Teare also made comments about the dark political situation we are confronting. These comments were what the Houston Democracy Project was looking to hear. DA Teare said we are dealing with a "climate of hate." He said the current moment is "reminiscent of the early 30's." He said "I'm not going to participate in whatever Reichstag Fire they create." He also said that he would as DA be following the law. He spoke of his admiration for the Constitution. I appreciated that DA Teare acknowledged what is going on and was clear he's not going to go along with it. There is no complicated analysis needed from elected officials. Just please be frank about what is taking place & affirm that you'll do what is right. DA Teare met this standard last night. We are all going be tested in the days ahead. We need the simple candor and strong commitment to right conduct we got from DA Teare last night, from all elected Democrats in Houston/Harris County. Insist on this candor and commitment from all of them no matter what office they hold. All elected officials take an oath to the Constitution & the Constitution is just what is at stake. Here is the Houston Democracy Project list of things each of us can do to fight back. Here is a fundraising pitch for the Houston Democracy Project. I'm doing the work and showing up in many different ways. Please help the effort. I'm on the Egberto Willies Politics Done Right Show every Thursday from 6 AM to 7 AM for the Houston Democracy Project segment. You can hear the show on the radio, stream it on KPFT or watch later Egberto's YouTube channel.
