Democratic Elected Officials & Strong Candidates Must Be Part of '24 Campaign

9/9/2024

I spoke recently to someone well-placed to know, and was told the great majority of elected Harris County Democrats and Democratic candidates certain to win in November because they don't have an opponent, are not active in or not overly active in Get Out The Vote efforts in Harris County in 2024.

This is a familiar story. Judges without Republican opponents, Democratic state legislators and the ten Democrats on Houston City Council are so often no place to be found while rank and file Democrats are block walking and phone banking.

We are 59 days until General Election Day on November 5. Early voting begins in 42 days on October 20. It is not a complicated matter and the stakes of the election are clear.

I urge rank & file Democrats and Democrats doing the work of getting out the 2024 vote, to contact their elected officials and candidates headed to a win to take a meaningful role in the 2024 campaign.

The very people who benefit most from our dysfunctional politics should be at the front of helping those working so hard for something better. We are going to get a clear idea over the next couple of months of who are elected officials really are and who has our backs.

Here is my fundraising pitch for Houston Democracy Project. I'm doing the work and showing up in many different ways.  Please help the effort.

Please sign the Houston Democracy Project petition to make the pledge to show up for freedom in 2024 no matter what.

I'm a rank & file Houstonian. I’ve volunteered extensively for Democratic candidates and causes, and served as staff for multiple campaigns. My work for Democratic campaigns has involved communications and strategy.

I’m an organizer of the Weekly John Cornyn Houston Office Protest. The Cornyn Protest team has been outside Senator Cornyn’s office each Tuesday for eight years now with one clear message: In addition to voting, we must show up physically and non-conventionally for the fights over democracy. Events have proven this assertion correct.
