Don't Give Away Support To Any CD 18 Candidate Who Won't Work For Us & Won't Take Risks For Us

​With the death of Congressman Sylvester Turner, there will be an election for a new Congressional District 18 representative whenever Governor Greg Abbott gets around to setting the date. 

So far there are two announced Democratic candidates in the strongly Democratic district. One candidate is Harris County Attorney Christian Menefee & the other is former Houston City Councilmember Amanda Edwards. There will likely be more candidates soon. 

Some elected officials have made an endorsement in the race. That's to be expected as candidates look to line up support. I've also seen some active rank & file Democrats make an endorsement. They are clearly free to do that, but I think they should hold off. 

Support for CD 18 candidates should be contingent on how they answer questions that directly relate to protecting our freedom.

Here are some examples:

1. What is your plan to increase voter turnout in CD 18 in every election? How will you have the backs of precinct chairs and active volunteers? What will you do to encourage other local elected Democrats to work to increase turnout across Harris County? What permanent political infrastructure will you build to strengthen the Democratic Party in CD 18? 

2. What is your plan to protect Houstonians from State of Texas government and the federal government? Will you aggressively fight authoritarianism? How? Will you confront the right even if it leads to threats to your personal safety? Will you take part in street protests & be on the same side of a police line as pro-democracy Houstonians? 

Don't offer backing to anybody only offering business as usual. Business as usual has taken us to this nightmare we are experiencing. Elected officials are our elected employees. They must assume every burden and risk that freedom-loving Americans will be taking up in the challenging days ahead. Demand that they do so.
