Houston Councilmember Fred Flickinger Does Not Know Why People Are Marching-Tell Him

​Last week I posted about the over-policed democracy rally and march from the Galleria area down Westheimer to Lamar High School. My post was shared by a local Republican. Hard right Houston City Councilmember Fred Flickinger made a remark in the comments. You see the comment above. 

Councilmember Flickinger, who represents Kingwood and Clear Lake, wants to know “What “rights” are they marching for?” Let’s help him with that. Please call or e-mail him to tell him what rights we are marching for. These are universal values we are discussing and Mr. Flickinger would take a campaign donation from outside the district, so you should feel free to connect with his office no matter where you are.

Among the rights we are marching for are:

• Due process as we confront masked secret police who can banish you to South Sudan. 
• To able to marry the person you want to marry as gay marriage is back in the courts. 
• First Amendment rights without fear of being targeted by Trump.
• Second Amendment rights in the face of reports of restricting gun ownership by trans people.
• The right to join a union as Trump busts unions in the federal government. 
• Being assured Republicans won’t continue to undermine free elections. 
• Get occupying federal troops out of cities. 

You can also remind CM Flickinger about his silence as Trump cuts impact NASA, the local National Weather Service, FEMA and the Texas Medical Center. CM Flickinger does find the time to spread misinformation about Harris County Democratic Judges. 

Take this opportunity to familiarize yourself with the partisan breakdown on Houston City Council. There are ten Democrats and Six Republicans. Contact all the Republicans and tell them we demand our rights & to speak up against troops in our cities and attacks on our freedom. Public comment time at Houston City Council is each Tuesday at 2 PM with the exception of the last Tuesday of each month when it is at 5:30 PM. Here is how you can speak at Council and here is how to contact your councilmember.  The earlier before the session you sign up, the higher up on the speaker's list you'll be. The agenda session to conduct Council business is each Wednesday at 9 AM.
