Judges Must Make It Easy For Us To Advocate -Indivisible Kingwood Forum

On Tuesday, 8/12, I’m moderating a forum at an Indivisible Kingwood meeting with Harris County District Court Judges Melissa Morris & Natalia Cornelio. Here is the website for the District Courts of Harris County. This is all part of my work on the Houston Democracy Project.

The meeting will be from 6 PM to 8 PM in the back room at Skeeters Mesquite Grill at 4121 W. Lake Houston. 

Indivisible Kingwood is a great shop with leadership from Cindi Hendrickson and an active membership. They are independent from the Democratic Party and have led the way with candidate forums, a weekly  protest at Dan Crenshaw’s office and well-attended No Kings rallies. 

The task ahead is ours. Nobody is coming to save us. 

I’m not going to say much as moderator of this forum. I don’t know much about courts and the law & the meeting is for the membership rather than myself. 

I’m going to say and ask the following: 

1. With all the attacks on the rule of law, where are the lawyers and professional classes standing up for their profession and the public good? 

2. How on Earth are we losing debates on so-called law and order, when Republicans support an insurrectionist felon for President. 

3. How can you Judges Morris & Cornelio give us the most succinct and effective way to convince other people to support Harris County Democratic Judges? What is the 90 second pitch in plain language ?  

We all have the capacity to effectively advocate for ourselves & for candidates and issues important to us. Our elected officials have an obligation and every reason to make the work easy.
