![]() I recently listened to/watched a forum where Republican Congressman Dan Crenshaw took some questions in a controlled setting. He's not man enough to face a real town hall. Above you see a picture from the event. Here is the event itself if you want to subject yourself to it. I watched so you did not have to. The event was co-hosted by the Woodlands Area Economic Development Partnership. Here is a map of Crenshaw's district. Here are some of the lowlights: * Asked if he would go after municipal governments in the way DOGE is going after the federal government, Crenshaw said a lot of what goes wrong in government is stupidity rather than corruption. He also said though that there are a lot of corrupt officials in Harris County. He did not not say who they are. You know--It's those-type people who live in Harris County. * Crenshaw said someday there would be another Democratic President. So I guess we can give him the low bar of accepting that fair elections will continue. Maybe he just doesn't hear or see what Trump is doing to purge voters. * He was very focused on trans issues. He said he did not want his two young daughters have to compete against boys in sports. What do these people do when their own kids turn out to be trans or gay? They are obsessed with this stuff. * Crenshaw was asked "Could you lead the way in securing jobs for the fired veterans?” He said in reply--“If you’re doing a job and doing it well, we’ve got to fight for you.” He did not say how are when he'd be fighting for these veterans. He said just firing people won't make government more efficient" and that if mistakes are made he has faith cabinet secretaries will "clean it up." He did not discuss how he'll conduct any oversight of that process. * There was a question about free school lunches and also a question about funding from a woman who works for the Montgomery County Food Bank. He said all the right things other than what he'd do to maintain funding. * He said "Nobody is touching your social security" although it was "not working well" for people still some years away from retirement like himself. That is not quite the case. There are fixes he could advocate for if he wanted to show leadership. Crenshaw said he did not think there was a lot of Social Security fraud like Musk is lying about. Egberto Willies at Politics Done Right has a fine report on Crenshaw's discussion of Social Security at this forum. * Crenshaw is in a feud with Tucker Carlson. I wish they'd go off together and not come back. Crenshaw took a dig at Carlson at the end of forum. Crenshaw last month was caught on a microphone saying he'd like to kill Carlson. A cause of this feud is Carlson's opposition to aid for Ukraine. Crenshaw said Putin was a bad guy. Still though, Crenshaw never stands up to Trump. Nothing makes Crenshaw do the right thing even if once in a while he has something more than a lousy idea. * There was no talk of rights being lost or attacks on the courts. * At the end of the performance, there was a pitch by the host for the Montgomery County Road Bond and how it would be so good for the local economy. Republicans like government when it is for them at home and when it's used to deport innocent people to the torture jail in El Salvador. It was difficult to have much respect for Rep. Crenshaw from watching him in this meeting. He has a distant notion of what would be right conduct, but no desire or courage to do better. (The Houston Democracy Project is always on the go. In addition to the report of the session above, here are accounts of recent public forums with Rep. Wesley Hunt, Harris County Tax Assessor-Collector Annette Ramirez,, State Senator Molly Cook, Rep. Al Green, Rep. Lizzie Fletcher and Harris County Attorney Christian Menefee.) Here is the Houston Democracy Project list of things each of us can do to fight Trump/Musk. Here is a fundraising pitch for the Houston Democracy Project. I'm doing the work and showing up in many different ways. Please help the effort. I'm on the Egberto Willies Politics Done Right Show every Thursday from 6 AM to 7 AM for the Houston Democracy Project segment. You can hear the show on the radio, stream it on KPFT or watch later Egberto's YouTube channel.

Crenshaw is an ex-Navy SEAL. Given his utter lack of courage and vision, it's remarkable he held that job. Sadly, it's not so remarkable he holds this one.
