There was a crowd of 64 at Week 424 of the John Cornyn Houston Office Protest yesterday. Above you see a picture of many at the protest on the street. At the bottom of the post is a fine Houstonian who acquired a chicken suit at her own expense to point out that John Cornyn will not hold any town halls.

The John Cornyn Houston Office Protest is each Tuesday, 11:30-1, 5300 Memorial Dr. Bring your sign or there are a number of extra signs.

We're trying to get through this struggle day-to-day without losing so many of our rights that it is all too far gone. There is no magic formula. Just day-to-day showing up & having each other's backs. We're hoping there will be elections free enough in 2026 where something hopeful can happen. Trump's executive order requiring onerous proof of citizenship requirements is a direct attack on our right to vote.

None other than Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer recently said that we are very possibly headed to a nationwide series of street protests.

From Bloomberg News reported in the Spokane Spokesman-Review:

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer predicted Americans will “rise up” if President Donald Trump defies courts that challenge his policies, saying he doesn’t trust Trump’s pledges to abide by judicial rulings..Schumer was responding to a question on NBC’s “Meet the Press” about a previous comment that any such effort by Trump would require “extraordinary action” by Democrats...If “the public is so, so angry and takes action – and certainly we Democrats will – it will trigger a mass movement from one end of the country to the other, something that we haven’t seen in a very long time,” Schumer said.

It's people with some of the least amount of power who are being asked to bear the greatest burdens to defend these failing systems. Just everyday citizens. When "the public is so, so angry and takes action" will our elected officials have our backs? There will be so many police in response to that moment. And quite likely the National Guard and maybe the regular army.

There will be anti-Musk/Trump protests in Houston on April 5th. These protests will be across the nation. Look for protests near you and spread the word. I think this will easily be the biggest day of protests of Musk/Trump's Presidency. I'm seeing word of the April 5th protest being shared from many people.

When you go, keep an eye on how HPD or your local police handles the protests. We'll be marching for our most basic rights. Will we be aggressively policed with our own tax dollars in our own cities?

As big law firms and elite colleges give in without a fight and Democratic elected officials have to be pressed to defend democracy, it is clear that this struggle is up to each of us.

Here is the Houston Democracy Project list of things each of us can do to fight Trump/Musk. Here is a fundraising pitch for the Houston Democracy Project. I'm doing the work and showing up in many different ways.  Please help the effort.

    I'm Neil Aquino.

I'm a rank & file Houstonian. I’ve volunteered extensively for Democratic candidates and causes, and served as staff for multiple campaigns. My work for Democratic campaigns has involved communications and strategy.

I’m an organizer of the Weekly John Cornyn Houston Office Protest. The Cornyn Protest team has been outside Senator Cornyn’s office each Tuesday for eight years now with one clear message: In addition to voting, we must show up physically and non-conventionally for the fights over democracy. Events have proven this assertion correct.
