I was at the busy junction of Kirby/Allen/Shepherd in Houston for two hours today with the sign you see above. People must see others like themselves pushing back. It has value and meaning. Can you think of a single local elected leader in Houston/Harris County who has been in the lead in talking about protecting our rights from Musk/Trump, or in making any effort to prepare communities for the prospect of mass deportations? I had a 90 second exchange with a woman in her car stuck at the red light today. She said she'd pray for me to be safe. She meant it & I've had exchanges like that before. I'm not brave or tough, but it shouldn't be that people have to worry about simple 1st Amendment stuff. We are the leaders. Nobody is coming to rescue us. Push back and look out for others in the ways that work for you & that you feel meet the challenge of the moment. The closer we get to January 20, the more we'll see that we'll have to rely on each other. I'm on the Egberto Willies Politics Done Right Show every Thursday from 6 AM to 7 AM for the Houston Democracy Project segment. You can hear the show on the radio, stream it on KPFT or watch later Egberto's YouTube channel. Here is a fundraising pitch for Houston Democracy Project. I'm doing the work and showing up in many different ways. Please help the effort.
