On Facebook & Twitter, Governor Greg Abbott has been directly attacking Harris County Democratic Judges. In the first picture you see a portion of his attack on Judge Hilary Unger. He has also gone after Judges Natalia Cornelio & Hazel Jones.

In this political climate, caused in large part by hard-right Republicans like Greg Abbott, these type attacks put our judges at risk.

Governor Abbott’s lies are in advance of a press conference tomorrow, 4/30, at Crimestoppers here in Houston. In the second picture below you see Governor Abbott’s invite to this event. One of the people speaking is Houston Mayor John Whitmire.

Here is a recent story from NPR station KUHF about how Mayor Whitmire is misrepresenting the record of our judges. Mayor Whitmire is helping Governor Abbott weaken Harris County judges and the rule of law, & strengthen the authoritarian right.

Contact the Democrats on Houston City Council and ask them to tell Mayor Whitmire to cool the attacks and skip the Crimestoppers meeting. It does not matter if they are your direct district Councilmembers or not. Elected officials have no problem sending fundraising pitches to people who live wherever.

Authoritarianism will require a local infrastructure. Mayor Whitmire must be held accountable for these attacks on our judges. Houston City Council Democrats must fully join the fight. We must demand that our elected Democrats have our backs.

Events have proven this assertion correct.
