Yesterday at Public Comment Session of Houston City Council, Houstonian Tammy Rodriguez asked Mayor Whitmire and Council if the Houston Police Department is helping with all the immigration raids taking place.

The discussion begins at the hour & two minute mark of the Houston TV feed of the meeting and lasts for about 12 minutes.

Mayor Whitmire said HPD is not assisting in the raids. I believe him.

Lt. Governor Dan Patrick today listed his top priorities for the current legislative session.

Here is #8:

Senate Bill 8 – Requiring Local Law Enforcement to Assist the Federal Government’s Deportation Efforts

Mayor Whitmire is always talking up his relationship with Dan Patrick. Will he lobby the Lt. Governor on this bill?

At the hour and 12 minute point of the Council meeting yesterday, Republican At-Large Councilmember Rev. Willie Davis talked about how he is working with fellow pastors to alleviate people 's concerns about the raids & how HPD is just on normal operations.

Above you see Rev. Davis talking yesterday about how HPD is going about its normal concerns.

Will Republican Davis back up his words with efforts to convince his fellow Republicans in Austin that Lt. Governor Patrick is on the wrong track?

Sitting next to Councilmemeber Davis above is fellow Republican Councilmember Fred Flickinger.

There are six Republicans on Houston City Council. They are Davis, Flickinger, Twila Carter, Amy Peck, Mary Nan Huffman and Julian Ramirez. Where do they stand on ICE actions in Houston & on Trump defying the courts to block essential federal dollars for Houston?

Councilmember Carter attended a Mattress Mack-sponsored get out the vote rally this past October. That might be a clue into her mindset.

The six Houston Council Republicans must be held accountable for Republican attacks on our city. Contact them and demand they serve the City of Houston and not the far right Republican Party.

Public comment time at Houston City Council is each Tuesday at 2 PM. You can
speak at Council and you should call and e-mail your councilmembers.  The earlier before the session you sign up, the higher up on the speaker's list you'll be. The agenda session to conduct Council business is each Wednesday at 9 AM. The agenda is posted in advance. Council can be watched on HTV Houston Television and is simulcast on the HTV feed on Facebook.

Authoritarianism will require a local infrastructure. Local officials will be needed to support and implement the Trump/Musk agenda. We must keep a sharp eye on the people right here at home.

Events have proven this assertion correct.
