In Hong Kong, 17 year old democracy protest leader Joshua Wong came to prominence two years ago as he spoke out about against so-called patriotic education being mandated for Hong Kong from mainland China.
From the New York Times---Mr. Wong emerged as a figure in Hong Kong’s activist circles two years ago, when he rallied students against a government plan to introduce “patriotic education” in schools..."
In Jefferson County, Colorado, students and teachers have been leading extensive protests against the decision of the Jefferson County School Board to replace the standard AP U.S. History curriculum with a conservative lesson plan.
From The Denver Post---
"The curriculum proposal, crafted by board member Julie Williams, calls for a nine-member panel to "review curricular choices for conformity to JeffCo academic standards, accuracy and omissions," and present information accurately and objectively. Williams' proposal calls for instructional material presenting "positive aspects" of U.S. heritage that "promote citizenship, patriotism, essentials and benefits of the free enterprise system, respect for authority and respect for individual rights." Materials should not, it says, "encourage or condone civil disorder, social strife or disregard of the law...."
