Here is a picture I took recently of California Attorney General Kamala Harris.
I like this picture for the metaphoric point of seeing the multiple sides of a person. We all have multiple sides. This is part of the complexity of being a human being.
I think it is possible that existence itself depends on metaphor.
I saw Ms. Harris at a fundraising lunch put on by Annie's List. Annie's List raises money for women candidates in Texas.
Guest Speaker Harris is likely to win the California U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Barbara Boxer.
Ms. Harris made a basic safe political speech. But one thing she said I thought useful was about not being overwhelmed by all the endless attacks from the right & to press ahead in any case.
I felt Ms. Harris was responding to what she felt she saw sometimes on our broadly defined left side of the aisle and that she was offering good advice.
Annie's List helps mainstream women Democrats in Texas politics. That is work worth doing. Another equally valuable aspect of our current politics are street protests, the Green Party and your own hopeful aspirations for a better world and nation.
It is a mix of outsider and insider politics that is required in today's money-owned and angry political environment. Neither can bring about needed change without the other.
My comrade Perry Dorrell at Brains & Eggs wrote a good post about some recent political events in Houston.
