YOU NEED TO ACT RIGHT NOW

EVERYDAY CLINTON AND SANDERS SUPPORTERS HAVE NO ARGUMENT WITH ONE ANOTHER

The average rank and file Hillary Clinton supporter could sit down with an average Bernie Sanders voter, agree on most things & look forward to being on the same side of many battles ahead.

There are however some Clinton backers who have insider status in various power structures across the nation.

In these cases, you wonder if the support for Clinton is based on real convictions, or in defense of a political system that most people across the ideological spectrum see as corrupt.

The target of the Sanders campaign is this corrupt system.

This call for change by Sanders is a point many everyday Clinton voters are receptive to for the months ahead of the 2016 campaign & also well after the campaign is over.

There is no reason at all for everyday Clinton and Sanders voters to be at odds with one another.

I agree. Sanders aims at more institutional problems. So far as I can tell, many if not most Clinton supporters would agree that the institutional problems exist, but are convinced that a true reformer can't get elected.

I'll disagree, Neil.

I didn't go for Clinton in 2008, and I'm not this cycle. My reasons are numerous but need not be repeated here. There are scads of Sanders supporters so disgusted with the system in place that if Clinton is the nominee, they won't be voting at all.

Sanders himself is simply using the infrastructure of the Democratic Party to run for president without falling prey to the corrosive aspects of it: the ridiculous amount of money being raised, the media's focus on asinine things like his hair, etc.

You are spot on in that people who make value judgements about candidates based on their fundraising are a big part of the fundamental dysfunction, and that their greed in having their issues serviced by an obsequious politico is just the ego stroke they are looking for.

Sanders' target is indeed the system, and Clinton is the bull's eye.

My own view is that voting for Clinton in a general election and also at the same time being open to a movement or uprising of some kind to change who holds power in this country is not a contradiction.

Just take it all as it comes and stay open to folks as best we can.
