In the ongoing pro-democracy protests in Hong Kong, demonstrators have made points and used tactics that show the connected nature of protest movements and basic human hopes across the globe.

The top picture is of Hong Kong protestors with the hands up/don't shoot position used by demonstrators in Ferguson, Missouri.

This was a reasonable outlook and point given the brutality of the Chinese government in the Tiananmen Square massacre in 1989.

In bottom picture, protestors have umbrellas to protect them from pepper spray and tear gas. Pepper spray attacks by police on Occupy Wall Street protestors were a big part of the Occupy movement.

The umbrella has become a larger symbol as the days have progressed of the Hong Kong democracy movement.

We are linked in wanting lives where we can be free & hopeful & concerned about the fates of others.

Here are some ideas for everyday resistance to our often violent and money-focused society. Please offer any ideas you have with a comment or by sending me an e-mail at naa618@att.net.

The work of freedom is up to each of us.
