I early voted yesterday in the runoff for Houston municipal elections.
The only candidate who really offers any hope on the ballot is maybe Amanda Edwards for At-Large Council position 4.
I'm sorry we had these nasty sex obsessed weirdos running the lying bathroom ads about the HERO ordinance.
Houston is a living diversity ordinance. Folks should look up from their anger and fear and see the hopeful stuff all around them. Just drive around & walk around and see the value of everyday life.

I appreciate the good decent rank-and-file Democrats and LGBT folks who work for a better Houston. It is difficult though to not be frustrated at the people who pushed HERO, did not have a good plan to fight for HERO at the polls, ended up mobilizing Republicans and now say what was sold as a universal matter of civil and human rights is not a cause to consider an economic boycott or for organized protests in Houston.
A serious commitment to human rights would have also addressed the shameful food sharing ordinance and would have understood years ago that we can't make progress in Houston with our consistently terrible voter turnout in city elections.
The whole process was never fully serious and now we have lousy runoff choices in Houston where in some cases there is no Democrat at all on the ballot despite this being a Democratic city.
If a municipal equal rights ordinance is again passed by Houston City Council, hopefully there will also be a plan in place from supporters of the law to make sure the ordinance sticks at the ballot box in the face of the inevitable challenge from hateful people.
