Increasingly I See Myself As A Citizen Of Our Shared American Hemisphere---Living In A Borderland Like Texas That Has Been Under Six Flags Has Helped Me Along In This View

Increasingly I see myself as a citizen of the shared history and shared fate of the North & South American hemisphere & not of any one nation. 

Living in a borderland such as Texas has helped me along in this view. Six nations have ruled over Texas. Today, Texas is a land of immigrants.

Some useful books along this line of thought are 1491 and 1493 by Charles Mann. These books are about our shared hemispheric history before and after Columbus. 

We are all far more connected than we are separate.
