I'VE BEEN READING THE SEVEN STOREY MOUNTAIN BY THOMAS MERTON---MERTON CITED BY POPE FRANCIS

I've been reading The Seven Storey Mountain by the Catholic monk Thomas Merton.

Merton, along with Abe Lincoln, Dorothy Day & Martin Luther King was one of four Americans cited as of note by Pope Francis when he addressed Congress last year.

Here is a bit of what Merton said about capitalism---"And nowhere, expect maybe in the analogous society of pagan Rome, has there even been such a flowering of cheap and petty and disgusting lusts and vanities as in the world of capitalism, where there is no evil that is not fostered and encouraged for the sake of making money."

Merton says plenty of other things as well in writings. He writes about peace, faith and contemplation. 

Look it all up and study Merton if so inclined.

There are all sorts of ways to approach bringing about change and new ways of living.

The work of learning about these things and working for that change is up to each up to each of us as individuals and collectively.
