Tomorrow I'm going to send a sustaining member donation to the Harris County, Texas Democratic Party. I'm also going to send a letter to new Party Chair Lillie Schechter.
Here is what my letter will say---
Ms. Schechter:
Thank you for your work already as Chair to bring new energy to the party.
I’ve just become a sustaining member of the Harris County Democratic Party with a donation of $120.
As you begin your service, please consider a greater role for the county party in Houston municipal elections. I’d also suggest that you ask Houston Democratic council members to do more to help build the party and to increase turnout in city elections.
Also, please consider communicating the view to national Democratic Party officials that the opinions and potential votes of working people in the Sunbelt are just as important as the potential votes of blue collar men in the Rust Belt.
The barista in Harris County or Fort Bend County is more likely the future of our party than the auto worker in Michigan.
