![]() I've sometimes seen myself as a stranger even in familiar places. I wager many folks have that feeling. I've been reading American history from colonization until 1850. It is interesting to consider what it was like at a beginning, without forgetting what we have learned since. (Painting above is Landing of the Pilgrims from 1807. Michele Felice Corne painted the picture.) Maybe we are colonists of a kind rather than strangers. Surely there is an empty land of kindness and openness we can occupy without displacing the many good things already here. There is also the example of Native Americans who would not assimilate.
