 Above is a recent Houston/Galveston National Weather Service graphic detailing complex conditions in the skies over Texas. Below are the words that accompanied the graphic--- A series of upper level disturbances will pass overhead during the next week. These impulses will combine with Gulf moisture already in place to trigger periods of showers and thunderstorms across parts of SE Texas. Unfortunately, the skill in trying to time these features several days in advance is quite low. Beyond the confident willingness to admit that they are not certain about the forecast, the metaphoric aspect of this weather graphic and account is also very good. Life is complex and full of moving parts that interact in unforeseen ways. Often the best we can do is be mindful of what is taking place and react and prepare as best we can. I was thinking about this ideas just the other day. The factors that go into what happens are so complex and seemingly arbitrary that it is very tempting to hook our wagons onto some system of thought or belief and let it do our thinking for us. Leave a Reply. |
