Protest at John Cornyn’s Houston Office Marks Half Year on July 25
Who: Patriotic Houstonians and Texans from across Harris County peacefully opposing anti-health care, anti-worker Republican Senator John Cornyn outside his Houston office will on Tuesday, July 25 at 11:30 AM mark 26 weeks of their successful weekly protest. In addition to making clear to passing motorists and pedestrians that Senator Cornyn has acted in lockstep with the Trump administration on rolling back workers rights, taking health care from millions and impeding the investigation into Donald Trump’s campaign and business dealings dealings with Russia, this group of citizens has also advocated to Cornyn’s staffers a positive agenda of health care for all, fair wages for all and transparency in government. What: Six months of rallying on the sidewalks and meeting with staffers in Senator Cornyn’s office to express the public’s increasing concern with the actions of Senator Cornyn and the course of the Trump Administration. When: Every Tuesday from 11:30 AM to 1 PM. This protest began the Tuesday after the Women’s March and has taken place each week since. It has gone forward on the hottest days of summer and in the rain. Where: Senator Cornyn’s Houston office located at 5300 Memorial Dr. Why: America can do better. America is a community that is strengthened when we work together on shared values. Rather than be divided into winners and losers, America unites and succeeds when offered a way forward by hopeful citizens. How It Began: According to event organizer Brent Sullivan--"The day after the Women’s March, Move On, Indivisible and Working Families Party had a conference call to organize #resisttrumptuesdays. After the call, I looked on the site for an event near me. There were two Ted Cruz events and none for Cornyn. There was a button labeled “create new event.” So I clicked it.” The Impact So Far: Says regular protest participant Neil Aquino-- “Every week we go to Senator Cornyn’s office to assemble outside and meet with Cornyn staffers. Citizens passing by often honk and shout in support. They know that others support their concerns about the Trump administration and Senator Cornyn. Our weekly conferences with Cornyn staff reminds the Senator that he will be held accountable for his actions and that we will never grow tired of our duties as citizens of this great nation.”
