RESPONSE FROM TAX ASSESSOR-VOTER REGISTRAR ANN HARRIS BENNETT ON NEED OF LOCAL OFFICIALS TO be mindful of DONALD TRUMP

Recently I posted here a letter I wrote to elected officials who represent me in Houston and Harris County, Texas about the need for local office holders to take the lead in protecting Houston and Harris County residents from Donald Trump.

In my previous post, I said I'd be copying here the responses I received from our local officials.

I'm glad to report that I've received a response from Harris County Tax Assessor & Voter Registrar Ann Harris Bennett.   

Before I offer Ms. Harris Bennett's reply, here is an excerpt of the letter I sent--- 

....The selection of Jeffery Sessions, once rejected for a judgeship due to racist words and conduct, as Attorney General further suggests a Trump Administration actively hostile to minority communities and to basic freedoms. .....Resistance to unlawful and authoritarian acts by the federal government must be centered out of the areas where the people who will be most affected live. .... Low turnout in urban elections cripples our ability to respond to hostile state and now federal actions....We cannot have a hopeful and broad response to the significant threat represented by Donald Trump’s Presidency, if at the same time local campaigns in Houston are decided by low turnout and a few big donors.

Here is Ms. Harris Bennett's reply----

Thank you for writing to my office. It is always an encouragement to hear from resdients with an active intrest in our governance  

In your letter, you have asked me to consider my role in "building coaltions and a culture of electoral involvement and participation needed tp protect our citizens." One of my primary goals for 2017 is to see Online Voter Registration  made a reality by the State Legislature to ensure a secure, accurate and efficient registration process. With your support and encouragement , it is my firm belief to see that become a reality. 

Again, thank you for your letter and I sincerely hope we all have a successful 2017 in Harris County. 

Very good---I appreciate that the letter was read and that I got a response.   Online voter registration is a good idea that is the law in 34 states.  

Thanks to Ms. Harris Bennett for her concern for freedom of all people in Harris County.
