THE LUNCH BOX IN CINCINNATI OFFERS VEGAN FOOD & CONNECTION TO A HEALTHY AND HOPEFUL IDEA OF SOCIETY

My friend Melissa Cox Howard has started up a vegan lunch restaurant in my native town of Cincinnati, Ohio.

Melissa wanted food better options for herself and others in Cincinnati, so she did it herself.

Doing-it-yourself need not be about isolation. It can be about building community and offering friendly and healthy options when what is mostly offered is bad stuff. 

The work of creating the society we hope to live in is up to each us. The work of reaching out to others to help make the society we hope to live in is up to each of us.

Here are some ideas for everyday resistance to our often violent and greed-driven society.

I asked Melissa to offer a brief account of her new restaurant. 

Here is what she said---   

It started because I was raised on TV dinners. 

As soon as I could, I became a vegetarian, went to the market and gathered my grains and veggies. And that was fine, but I missed my grandmas cooking. So I started figuring out how to cook like her, but healthier.

Vegan cooking is the same. Make the foods most of us grew up on, but clean it up. 

AND KEEP IT TASTY.

 Lunch Box does just that. We have "burgers, cheese, mayo, even egg salad" but its not made from animal ingredients, not even honey!
