![]() There are no immigration policy ideas or proposals on the website of the Wendy Davis for Texas Governor campaign. (Photo is of Ms. Davis.) But we do find out on the website that the Cinco de Mayo with Latinos for Wendy event in Houston was a big success. Upset that children who have come to Texas alone from Central America are the targets of such hate? You won't find your values expressed in the dead-end world of our current politics. Real values and real change will have to come from everyday people like us. We must remain engaged enough in conventional politics to defend ourselves & make any progress possible. In the 2014 Texas Governor's race Ms. Davis is running against the malicious and big money-owned Greg Abbott. I get why many are concerned over the prospect of Mr. Abbott as Governor. But it is increasingly more important that we opt out of the destructive & money-owned value current system, and create a language and set of options that can truly offer something hopeful. This is a political & cultural task that is up to each of us. How long can we wait for something else as the deepest questions of our tough new economy and climate change go unaddressed? How long should we wait when political consultants and others working in the politics industry get paid no matter what in a political system drowning in Citizen's United money. Why would any of these folks take real risks when the payday is assured in any case? We can't live out our lives waiting for people who profit from a broken system to come and rescue us. We can't live out our lives waiting for the same policymakers from both sides of the aisle who brought us the Iraq War and the 2008 financial crash to wise up and start getting things right. Here are some ideas for everyday resistance. Please share your ideas as well with a comment on this post or by sending an e-mail my way at naa618@att.net. Please read all of NeilAquino.com
