TODAY I WALKED IN DOWNTOWN HOUSTON WITH MY SIGN SAYING THAT BASIC RESPECT IS A FORM OF RESISTANCE

Here I am today with my sign out and about on the streets of Houston, Texas.

My sign says, as you see, "Respect For One Another Is A Form Of Resistance In This Society."

I walked for three hours with my sign.

I was run out of Discovery Green Park by a security guard. He said I needed "permission from the office" to have my sign in the park.  I was really just walking through the park and had stopped for maybe 5 minutes to reply to some messages on my phone.

On the other hand, the guard was just doing his job. I thanked him and kept moving. I'll look into the free speech policies at Discovery Green soon. But the man I interacted with today was simply about his tasks.

I was asked a few times by people Downtown today about what I was doing or what I was working to convey.

My reply was that we often don't treat each other with basic kindness and respect in our society, and that it is a form or resistance or subversion to offer each other basic kindness and empathy.

I'll be creating more signs and spending more time out on the streets and sidewalks of Houston.
