TOUGH TALK ABOUT ISIS---WE DON'T WANT SYRIAN REFUGEES

Three reactions to the reaction to the Paris terrorist attacks---

1. We hear bellicose talk about crushing ISIS , but I don't think folks here in America invested all that time and money in SAT tutoring classes and travel soccer teams to have their kids go fight in some war. I'm not sure what would get this country to broadly mobilize if ever really required. We'd conscript the poor from Appalachia and the inner cities while the educated classes from both major parties worked out terms of our victory or of a palatable surrender so long as their own status was not threatened. I'll support a war in this unequal country when we send college kids first and when we get folks who call for war to pledge to send a family member.

2. HAPPY THANKSGIVING. MERRY CHRISTMAS. THE PILGRIMS & INDIANS SAT DOWN TO A NICE MEAL. KEEP CHRIST IN CHRISTMAS. STAY OUT YOU MUSLIMS. SEND SYRIANS BACK TO IRAN. STAY OUT WAR REFUGEES. DIDN'T WE DO ENOUGH FOR YOU IN IRAQ? THIS IS NOT OUR FIGHT. OBAMA SAYS HIS KORAN COMMANDS HIM TO DEPUTIZE SYRIANS AS ATF AGENTS TO TAKE OUR GUNS. JESUS WAS BLONDE & BLUE-EYED. LIBTARDS LIBTARDS LIBTARDS LIBTARDS WHY IS THAT MAN IN THE LADIES ROOM? AMERICA IS CHRISTIAN NATION. I DIDN'T LIKE ISRAEL & THE FRENCH BEFORE, BUT NOW I REALLY DO. LIBTARDS LIBTARDS LIBTARDS WE DON'T NEED ALL THOSE GLACIERS ANYWAY. HEALTH CARE KILLS.

3. A reason I don't reflexively bash Texas as uniquely bad no matter the craziness is that the Democratic Mayor of my hometown of Cincinnati said today that he does not want any Syrian refugees either. The ignorance is everywhere. The Cincinnati thing just made me sad. I surely am a Texan, but I'm a Cincinnatian at core. Let's offer our thoughts and prayers to Cincinnati Mayor John Cranley that he find a more hopeful path.

Let us hope that our nation finds a way to its better impulses. The pragmatic and idealistic work of freedom and kindness is up to each of us.
