80% Of Texas Women Not Aware Of Restrictive Abortion Laws-We Must Find New Ways Of Doing Things

Wonkette reports over 80% of Texas women don't know how restrictive Texas abortion laws are.

From Wonkette:

"Given that abortion has been banned in the state for two years, one would think people would be aware that, well, abortion has been banned in the state for two years — but 73 percent of those surveyed incorrectly believed that abortions were still available at abortion clinics in the state."

Here is the full survey from Resound Research For Reproductive Health.

(There has also been some thought that as unlikely as it may seem, there are many voters who don't realize how extreme Trump would be in a second term.)

The way voters and potential voters are being informed (or not informed) is not working.  There are a lot of pro-choice candidates and elected officials & pro-choice advocacy groups. They should come up with new ideas on sharing word and making the case.

The right has done a good job conveying all sorts of lies. We could do better conveying some truth.

Elected officials in safe districts could dip into campaign funds for informational canvassing and digital campaigns to get the word out to Texas women and all Texas voters. Advocacy groups could ask more of the candidates they support. Instead of just endorsements, there could be report cards from pro-choice non-profits telling voters just what effort elected officials are putting into making Texas women aware of just how few rights they have. Elected officials who don't make the effort could be stripped of the endorsement.

A lot of how we have always done things does not work. We would not be just a few months shy of a very possible 2nd Donald Trump term if they were working. We must fine new ways forward.

The Cornyn Protest team has been outside Senator Cornyn’s office each Tuesday for eight years now with one clear message: In addition to voting, we must show up physically and non-conventionally for the fights over democracy. Events have proven this assertion correct.
