![]() The John Cornyn Houston Office Protest Team & a City of Houston Prosecutor got a conviction today against a man who threw eggs at us three years ago. The police blamed it on us at the time. It was a Class C misdemeanor charge of "threat by assault" in a City of Houston Court. The wrongdoer ended up pleading guilty without a trial. The John Cornyn Houston Office Protest has been at 5300 Memorial Dr, each Tuesday, 11:30 AM-1 PM, since January of 2017. 373 weeks and counting. Please join us for any amount of time. We have extra signs for everyone and we are friendly. The guy who threw the eggs still drives by & screams vile stuff. He was mocking us in court today. Just like how Trump disrespects courts. We can't let these people bully us. We were able to get the conviction because one of our crew would not let up on pursuing the matter. She got an HPD sergeant and then a city attorney to push it forward. It was also very helpful that we had a video of the incident. The Cornyn Protest makes the point that in addition to voting, we are going to have to show up physically and in non-conventional ways to meet the authoritarian challenges ahead. We must show up for ourselves and not wait for anyone to rescue us. Don't be intimidated by the violence and aggression of the right. The picture above were six of regular Protest participants who had been subpoenaed as witnesses. It was a good day. Please sign the Houston Democracy Project petition to make the pledge to show up for freedom in 2024 no matter what. The Houston Democracy Project works daily to inspire, organize and strengthen pro-democracy coalitions in Houston and Harris County.
